What is LinkedIn connection request?
A LinkedIn connection request is an invitation to add someone to your network. Adding a short, personalized note (up to 300 characters) that gives a genuine reason to connect significantly increases acceptance rates over a blank request.
The connection request is the front door of LinkedIn outreach. The single most important rule is to not pitch in the request: the goal is the connection, and the sale comes later, once you are connected and a message is welcome.
Personalized notes referencing a shared interest, a mutual connection, or something the person posted get accepted far more often than generic ones. Blank requests work too, but they set up a colder first message.
Volume matters for safety. Sending too many requests per day, especially from a new account, is a common cause of LinkedIn restrictions. Conservative, SSI-aware limits keep sending safe.
